The Gothic | The fusion between tradition and innovation

It is known as medieval Barcelona because it is the oldest district in the city that delights in the footsteps of the Roman Barcino. Between its labyrinthine streets, you can feel the vibration of history and the culture that precedes it. Thus, Gothic becomes one of the most recognized neighborhoods of Barcelona where the main medieval landmarks of the city, such as Portaferrissa fountain, the basilica of Santa Maria del Pi and Barcelona Cathedral, are found.

Its history refers to the growth of the metropolis of Barcelona. When the city was enclosed within its walls, the territory where the Eixample stands today was an unmade space and the houses closest to the walled city were in the villages of Sant Gervasi, Sants, Sarrià or Sant Andreu. The structure of the neighborhood remained practically intact until the middle of the XIX century when the old medieval walls were demolished and the parish cemeteries were transformed into public squares.

Its necessary evolution, however, maintained the originality of its buildings and monuments. From the date until today, the properties that are in the area are characterized by their authenticity. Among these, the real estate project “Escudellers” stands out, a unique estate of the XVIII century located at the foot of the Square George Orwell in the very heart of the neighborhood. Although comprehensive renovation work is done, the details of the period are carefully respected as the decorated building face. All the guidelines of the Department of Heritage of the Barcelona City Council are followed in its interior.
